Who Joins?
Explorer Scouts are young people, usually aged between 14 and 18 years old, male or female. They make up the fourth Section of the Scouting family.
As an Explorer Scout, you will get the chance to work with other Explorer Scouts in your District, not just your Unit. By doing this, you will get the chance to do many more activities, not just the ones your Unit organises.
You do not have to come every week, because you will often be out and about at weekends or in the holidays doing activities. There will be times when you will be busy doing other things such as exams, and being an Explorer Scout can fit around.
How to Join?
Membership A&F Explorers Application Form
Filling in the above membership application will start the process for you – but you can just use the CONTACT US link to drop a line to one of the leaders.
We normally ask Young People to come along for two to three weeks before making a final decision, and then take about six weeks before an Investiture Ceremony makes a Young Person a full member.
ALREADY IN SCOUTS?
Just ask your Scout Leader to introduce you to us, and we will take the Moving On process from there.
Bedfordshire District Explorers are run at a District level. You can, and should, enjoy meetings with any Explorer Unit in the District. All Units like you to visit them before making a decision as to which Unit you want to meet with most regularly, but all the District Units meet together several times a year (usually including a camp, a hike, an activity evening and Gilwell 24) so you will get to know members from across the District very quickly.
If you are already in Scouting, there is a little guide to moving on on Scouts.org.uk which may help.
