Fund Raising
http://www.scouts.org.uk/news/468/scouting-supports-those-living-with-cancer
Saturday 4 February is World Cancer Day, a global event which aims to raise awareness and encourage people to unite in fighting against all forms of the disease.
Many scouts’ lives are affected by cancer, whether they are diagnosed themselves or know someone who is. For many this means providing care and support, and scout groups are a supportive family environment in which members feel loved and cared for.
We have ambitious plans for 2011/2012 and 2013
Those plans need funding
The whole Unit will be taking part
We need parents and friends of Scouting to help us
Emails have gone out to all, please ensure that you reply and offer assistance
DON’T FORGET TO SHOP THROUGH EASY FUNDRAISING ONLINE
- it has already given us nearly £100!
| Activity | Action To |
| PLANNING | Complete a Fund Raising Schedule with associated responsibilities. Set this up in an online tool (like basecamp or remember the milk) and assign deadlines and tasks to people
Set the plan into five parts: |
| PR | Most of the fund raising requires or is enhanced by PR, so this needs to be kicked off with District PR as soon as possible, with a strong view to the regional aspects, YP led activities, cultural exchange in Spain, Oman, and so forth |
| Grant Applications | Prepare case for grants. Search all available lists of grants, local, regional, national and other. Put basic PR exposure into place to pre-warm targets. Prepare target list, Prepare letters, Send letters, Follow up. Agree terms. Follow up PR. Reporting and obligations of grant to be managed. Draft support from District, from BRCC and from parent helpers Create parent fund raising team under leadership guidance Use lists delivered by ACC and National Scouting |
| Corporate Sponsorship | Prepare case for Sponsors. Search all available lists of Sponsors in a 25 mile radius including London (avoid conflicts with other members of Scouting group). Put basic PR exposure into place to pre-warm target Sponsors. Prepare target list, Prepare letters, Send letters, Follow up. Agree terms. Follow up PR. Reporting and obligations of Sponsors to be managed. |
| Bag Packing 1 | Available now at Morrisons, but it needs 2 persons per till, plus 4 tin carriers to be really effective, so it really has to be shared with the whole Unit. One of the Africa team is on the supermarket mgmt, so will arrange this on request locally (we should pick most likely). |
| Bag Packing 2 | Follow up |
| Bag Packing 3 | Follow up |
| Bag Packing 4 | Follow up |
| Supermarket local charity green token scheme |
Needs to be applied for in writing and followed up |
| Sponsored Walk | 50 mile PoppyLine 50 course or similar, with overnight camp – can be combined with Silver or Gold DoE training. Would get good media if organised by YPs. Will need 2 to 4 adults to back up, transport, cover emergencies, co-ordinate, etc |
| Cake Sales 1 | Buy slab cakes, ice with novel patterns, arrange sales area, sell, collect cash. There are events at School, Ampthill Gala, Maulden Fete and so on. If managed as a small catering event, this could be shared with the Unit |
| Cake Sales 2 | Maulden |
| Cake Sales 3 | If at Ampthill gala, we need to coordinate with Ampthill GSL |
| Cake Sales 4 | Maulden |
| District Support | District might help, or give help in kind |
| County Support | County might help, or give help in kind |
| Gift Aid | If funds are passed through Unit charity details we can get gift aid and return that to funds after charges and costs – assume 20% of qualifying amounts can be recovered in year one |
| Ceilidh | Significant organisational burden, and coincides with overseas trip, so heavy on leadership and parents. Also carries risk in terms of band, hall, catering and equipment hire. Therefore best shared with Unit as a whole. Separate project plan for Ceilidh exists |
| Bank “Fund Match” | Apparently bank will match community fund raising on a 1:1 basis. A local parent apparently knows something about this, so it is being investigated. May need us to open other accounts. Will need PR backing |
a date has been set to clear the garage and hut of rubbish.
It will be on Saturday 12th March, from 9am to about midday/1pm. The large skip will arrive about 9:30am, and be picked up at 2pm. The plan is to empty the garage, the store above the kitchen, the sofa’s going, any equipment not needed form the equipment store, and then any rubbish lying around the hut outside.
I am requesting that only leaders and adults help please, No Explorer Scouts, due to health and safety. There is alot of dangerous obstacles in the garage and the store, and I do not want any injuries.
