events

We like the Unit to plan their own evenings, but, in case they don’t, we have a framework of evenings that we can run as leaders. The list is now on the Google Calendar (see “calendar” on the navigation bar), but is subject to change. If we do change it, we always try to give notice.

So, is this enough? What else would you like to do?

St Georges Day at Twickenham  – a massive event, up to 70,000 people and a Bath v Wasps match. We are hoping to invest the new members on the Turf! Start your count down now to the St George’s Day match when Bath Rugby face London Wasps at Twickenham on Saturday 24th April, kick off 5.30pm. The rivalry between these two clubs has always been fierce, but now it is taken to a whole new level as they prepare to meet at the home of English rugby on Saturday 24th April. If you thought St George slaying the dragon was a big deal – you ain’t seen nothing yet! The game will raise money for Help for Heroes, an organisation that supports service personnel injured in combat. This is a charity which has seen a great link forged with sport and particularly rugby and Bath are delighted that their own sporting heroes can, along with their supporters, contribute to such a fantastic and valuable cause.

We have teams entered for the Ultimate Tanners summer walking marathon at 30km distances. After 50 years of inspiration, dedication and personal commitment, the Tanners Marathon will end on a high note. You have up to 2010 to enjoy and register your part in what will then become a legend. Get your certificates, contribute to a team and possibly a trophy. BUT, if you ever intended, or wish to do it again, now is the time. The more the merrier over these last years. Bring you children and hope that they will in their turn develop similar experiences for the generations to come. These things do not just happen; special people make them happen. The Committee have decided not to do a 50 mile course this year, but are instead putting all their energy into making the 30, 20, and 10 mile events as memorable as ever.

We aim to get 90% of the Unit to Gilwell 24 which only has a few activities … Gilwell Gauntlet, Segways, Power Boking, Car driving, Gilwell Marathon (Offsite Activity), Mountain Boarding , Quad Bikes, Simulators, Cinema, Go Karts, Assault Course, Water Slides, Raft Racing / Boat Racing, Rifle Shooting Competition, Rocket Building, Inflatables, Archery, Rock Climbing, Speed Climbing, Food Challenge, Orienteering, Scavenger Hunt, Playstation Zone, Water Rockets, Fire Building, Military Activity Team, Digital Camera Centre, Craft Zone, Laser Clay Pigeon Shooting, CyberCafe, Crate Stacking, Water Polo, Card games, Speed Stacking, Giant Games, Campfire, It’s a knockout , Caving, Mobile Phone Marking, Scuba Diving, Survival Zone , Fairground, Outdoor Woodland Quaser , Evening Disco

We will post more about Summer Camp soon.

We have plans to enter the Tolmers Sedan Chair Race again and are determined to practice in advance this time. Medals beckon after our practice event last year…

… and in between, we have at least 5 smaller events, including one or two run by our (older and more experienced / trusted) Explorers on the Event Passport scheme
