Gilwell 24 2011 has been announced and will take place from Friday 8th July until Sunday 10th July 2011. The core Gilwell 24 event is a 24 hour long day of activity and challenge running from 09:00 on Saturday straight through until 09:00 Sunday. Gilwell 24 is open to all Explorer Scouts and Senior Section Guides aged 14-18.
Prices for 2011 are £28 for participants arriving Saturday, £35 for participants arriving Friday and £14 for leaders covering all camp fees and Gilwell 24 activities. Prebookable meals and onsite food outlets are available and the prices will be listed on the website once menus have been confirmed.
We expect tickets to go on sale on 1st February 2011.
The site will be updated in the run up to the event with full activity details and event information. We will camp in a group as a District, sharing the catering, travel, kit and workload with our friends in local Units – so start planning now!
FAQ
Gilwell 24 is open to all Explorers aged between 14 and 18. If you are over 18 and wish to take part you may be interested in attending the event as staff. The event is also open to Scouts who are engaged in linking activities with the Explorer Scout Unit.
What paperwork do we need to complete?
Once you have completed your booking form you will receive a nominal role sheet, Gilwell 24 consent form and a PADI consent form. The second two will need to be completed by all members attending the event. Each unit will also need to file a Nights Away Notification with their District Commissioner
Can we attend without a leader?
Yes, your unit needs to get a Explorer Event Passport issed by your leader and again file a Nights Away notification. You will then be assigned to our headless chicken team who will be around in case you run into any problems during the event.
Which forms & Paperwork do we need to bring with us?
1) You will need to bring with you a copy of your Permit if you will be using it to attend the event.
2) You will also need to complete a nominal role for so we have details of everyone attending the event and emergency contact information. (This will be available as an online form to speed the checkin process).
3) Each member will need to bring a Gilwell 24 consent form this will be supplied once you have made your booking and covers parental consent to attend the event and take part in activities requiring particular parental consent. Each participant will need to keep this piece of paper with them.
4) Each member who wishes to try Scuba Diving needs to complete a PADI consent form which includes a medical questionaire. Again this form will be kept by the participant until they attend the Scuba Diving session they have booked for.
5) Your group will also have a consent form from each member to attend the event and any medical information that may be required. This is the responsibility of the individual group and the forms will be held by the unit leader or passport holder
Do we need to arrive in Uniform?
We are expecting all groups to arrive with uniform from the waist up. However please ensure your group is wearing their event t-shirts for the start of the event.
1st Luton Water Activity day –
On 18th September the 1st Luton Sea Scouts are offering a water activity day for 64 Scouts and Explorers. The cost of the event is £15 per head and people will spend somewhere in the region of an hour on each of rafting, rowing, sailing and kayaking. I attended the day for Beavers and Cubs this weekend and everybody had a wonderful time. If any of your Explorers are interested in the event, your DC has got further information.
